Diagnosis

There is no one test to diagnose ADHD. A series of neuropsychological exams and interviews are most often used to determine whether someone is suffering from the disorder. Additionally, since many other physical and mental disorders may mimic ADHD, it is important to rule those out while considering and correctly diagnosing possible co-existing conditions that can contribute to a patient’s behavioral and learning difficulties. For these reasons, each of our patients:
  • Is assessed by a board-certified pediatrician, as well as a special education expert.
  • Has her or his case reviewed by an on-site board-certified child psychiatrist.
  • Undergoes a full diagnostic workup, including pyschological and educational testing.
Patients should feel secure knowing this diagnostic workup is consistent with guidelines recently published by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Treatment

We seek individual, long-term and comprehensive treatment for every patient. Our method incorporates medical, educational and behavioral intervention – all customized according to each child’s specific needs. Consequently, the treatment plan may include medication, family behavioral training, modification of school programs or learning environments, or other appropriate intercession. Whatever it takes to assure that every child is as successful as he or she can be... in school, at work, at home and at play.

Monitoring

Tracking patients to determine how they are progressing, and whether they are on the right medication and dosage, is critical to ultimate treatment success. Our medical staff insists upon regular follow up, either by the Center or the patient’s primary care physician, to continually assess the effectiveness of treatment and adjust it accordingly.

Coordination of care

To date, the process of treating ADHD has been fragmented, with no central “clearinghouse” to oversee various phases of care. Now there is. Not only do we report back to each patient’s primary care physician or pediatrician on a regular basis, we assist in educational planning at the patient’s school and regularly interact with school personnel. In this way, we maintain a constant feedback loop to ensure the treatment plan is being carried out properly and thoroughly.
