Dr. Tanya R. Bilchik
Tanya R. Bilchik is a Board Certified Neurologist, with a Subspecialty Certification in Headache Medicine awarded by the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties. She completed her neurology residency at Yale University in New Haven, CT after graduating from The University of Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, SA.
Before joining Hartford Neurology in 1994, a private practice affiliated with Hartford Hospital, Dr. Bilchik spent a year on the faculty of LSU Shreveport, and the VA Medical Center in Shreveport.
She has taken an active role in headache research, and has been an Investigator in numerous pharmaceutical migraine studies involving the treatment of headache disorders.
Dr. Bilchik is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Through speaking engagements with primary care providers and residents, and grand rounds participation, she promotes increased awareness in the management of headaches. She is an activemember of several professional headache associations.
Dr. Bilchik founded the Hartford Headache Center in 2004 after ten years with a general neurology practice where she developed a special interest in caring for individuals experiencing headache pain. Increased patient awareness, and involvement in numerous research studies into the causes of treatment of migraine has helped the Hartford Headache Center expand its services.
Denise McGrath, MSN, FNP, APRN, BC
Denise McGrath graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1998 as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Ms. McGrath has placed an emphasis on helping individuals and families cope with the various difficulties associated with chronic illness through the use of positive methods and healthful lifestyles.
Gretchen Michaelson, APRN
Gretchen Michaelson, BSN, RN, MS, APRN-BC, MSCS is a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Specialist, a neurology lecturer at the University of Massachusetts Medical School Graduate School of Nursing, and a frequent patient and provider educator. After graduating from the UMass Graduate School of Nursing, with highest honors, she became the second neurology specialized nurse practitioner in the State of Connecticut, leading the way for many others to follow. Prior to joining the Hartford Headache Center, she served with a general neurology practice in Vernon and Bloomfield, CT which strengthened her desire to specialize and better support headache and Multiple Sclerosis patients.
Ms. Michaelson takes a holistic approach utilizing pharmacological, non-pharmacological, and behavior modifications to offer a multi-disciplinary approach. Believing that education is power, she works diligently to provide educational tools to empower her patients to take control of their health. Ms. Michaelson was also selected by the International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses to participate in a mentorship program to improve the quality of care for individuals with Multiple Sclerosis.
