There is a new vitamin they are talking about, Vitamin N, and that stands for Nature! Researchers who studied people in 20 countries found that people with access to nature and who spent time outside had lower levels of stress- as well as a reduced risk for chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and high blood pressure. Here are some ways to get those health benefits and enjoy nature every day.
Go for a hike. Hiking is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. You can do a difficult hike that brings you to a stunning view, or a low impact stroll along a local hiking/biking trail. You’ll get benefits from both!
Have a picnic. This can be in a beautiful field on a weekend or at a picnic table outside the office any day of the week. Take time to enjoy your meal and the noises of nature outside, you’ll go back to your day or your desk refreshed.
Take a walk in the park. Instead of talking on the phone, invite a friend or family member to take a walk around a local park. Catch up while getting some huge health benefits. Adding a social aspect to being in nature could have additional positive impact on your health.
Just look outside. Other studies showed that simply noticing nature- a flower, a bird, or a beautiful tree- was enough to decrease stress and boost mood. Take a few minutes each day to look out the window, or put a plant on your desk that you can enjoy.
Another way to add health benefits to your day is to add nature to your plate! Fresh fruits, vegetables, herb and edible flowers will brighten up your meals and add loads of nutrition.
