Meet Our Team

Team Approach

Improving hearing health and quality of life is the primary focus of the collaborative team at ProHealth Hearing & Balance. Our team is made up of licensed specialists, including audiologists and an ear specialist. Hearing & Balance collaborates with fellow ear, nose, and throat physicians Seth Brown, MD and Belachew Tessema, MD from ProHealth Physicians’ Ear, Nose & Throat.

Ben Wycherly, MD

Dr. Ben Wycherly, a native of Boise, ID, received his B.A. from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, and his M.D. from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he was awarded for his excellence in research and leadership. Dr.Wycherly completed a fellowship in otology and neurotology at the Silverstein Institute in Sarasota, FL. He and his wife moved to CT to join ProHealth Physicians in 2011.

Dr. Wycherly is a member of the American Neurotology Society and the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery. His surgical, clinical, and research interests include Eustachian tube surgery, cochlear implants, bone-anchored hearing aids, chronic ear surgery, ossiculoplasty, stapes surgery, Ménière’s disease, tinnitus, and dizziness and balance disorders.

Dr. Wycherly appreciates the opportunity that medicine affords him to help others. When he is not practicing medicine, he enjoys running, serving at his church and community, and spending time with his family. He is fluent in Spanish.

Lynn Firestone, Au.D, CCC-A, FAAA

Dr. Lynn Firestone grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts. She received her BA in communication disorders from the University of Massachusetts, her master’s degree in audiology from Michigan State University, and her doctorate in audiology from the University of Florida. Dr. Firestone has served as the secretary of the CT Speech-Hearing-Language Association and is a founder of the CT Academy of Audiology.

Dr. Firestone has worked in various areas in audiology, working with both hearing-impaired and deaf individuals. Her specialties are diagnostic audiology, amplification in adults, and treatment of tinnitus. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and the Academy of Doctors of Audiology. Dr. Firestone is licensed in audiology by the state of Connecticut and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She is also board certified by the American Board of Audiology.

Christy Aurigemma, Au.D, FAAA

Dr. Christy Aurigemma has been a licensed practicing audiologist for over 10 years. She received her Doctorate degree in audiology from the University of Florida and her Master’s degree in audiology from Southern Connecticut State University. She is board certified by the American Board of Audiology, is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, and a member of the Vestibular Disorders Association. Her professional interests include comprehensive diagnostic hearing assessment and vestibular evaluation, as well as fitting of non-surgical hearing devices for adults. While committed toward improving the function and quality of life of all patients, her continuing goal is to provide the highest quality of medical care and patient satisfaction that she would appreciate for her own family.

Susan Meissner, Au.D, CCC-A, FAAA

Dr. Susan Meissner has been a licensed practicing audiologist in the Northeast for over 25 years. She received a BS in Habilitation of the Deaf from Texas Christian University, her master’s degree in audiology from Gallaudet University, and her doctorate in audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. Susan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and a certified member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Her specialties include geriatrics, cochlear implant evaluation, and programming and vestibular assessment. She believes that a creative outlet brings out the best in us and works to find time for playing the flute and hammered dulcimer. She seeks out and supports musical and theatrical presentations in her community.

Claire McChesney, Au.D, CCC-A, FAAA

Dr. Claire McChesney earned her undergraduate degree from Bates College in Maine and her doctorate in audiology from CUNY The Graduate Center in Manhattan. She has worked at several practices in Connecticut and New York, including Downstate Medical Center and NYU Medical Center. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from ASHA. She attends numerous continuing education conferences, including the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) and the Connecticut Academy of Audiology (CTAA). Her professional interests include conducting hearing and balance assessments and the fitting of surgical and non-surgical hearing devices for children and adults.

Carly Gauche, AuD, CCC-A, FAAA

Dr. Gauche completed her undergraduate degree at Western Washington University and then went on to earn her doctorate in audiology from Pacific University in Northern Oregon. After graduating from her doctoral program, she spent time working in the Pacific Northwest performing diagnostics for hearing and balance disorders as well as fitting patients with hearing aids, bone anchored hearing aids, and cochlear implants. While Carly loved growing up and working on the West Coast, she is excited to join ProHealth Hearing & Balance and explore all there is in the New England area. Her professional interests include diagnostics, vestibular assessment, and hearing aid amplification. Carly is licensed in audiology by the state of Washington and Connecticut and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. She also holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Lisa Knicos, AuD, CCC-A, FAAA

Dr. Knicos received a bachelor of science degree from the State University of New York at Genesco before earning a master’s degree at the University of New Mexico. She completed her doctorate of audiology at the University of Florida before working as a clinical audiologist for several practices as well as Bridgeport Hospital. Dr. Knicos is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and the Connecticut Academy of Audiology. Dr. Knicos is licensed in audiology by the state of Connecticut and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Her specialties are diagnostic audiology and amplification in adults, and counseling patients with hearing loss.

 Smolinski

Tessa Smolinski, AuD

Dr Tessa Smolinski graduated from the University of Connecticut with her doctorate in audiology and obtained undergraduate degree in communication sciences and disorders from Springfield College. She is an avid volleyball player and spends most of her non-working hours on the court. Dr. Smolinski is a three-time All-American and has been inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Volleyball Hall of Fame. She often advocates for the referees to wear hearing protection. She is also a longtime supporter of the Special Olympics and loves all animals.
