Bone Densitometry

What to Expect from a Bone Densitometry Exam

This simple procedure will measure your bone mineral density (BMD), which will help your physician determine the density of your bones and your fracture risk. Your exam will be performed by a registered technologist certified by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Prior to the exam, you will be asked to complete a Bone Density Questionnaire that provides details about what medications you are taking, your current height and weight, whether or not you are postmenopausal, if there is a history of fractures, or a family history of hip fractures.

Your exam will be completed in about 20 minutes. While lying on a table, a scan is taken of your lower back, hip, or wrist. There are weight limits on the scanning tables. If you have any concerns, please call our office for more information.

The results of your test will be reviewed and interpreted by a board-certified specialist and a report will be provided to your physician.
