Periodic Limb Movement Disorder

Periodic limb movements are the tightening and flexing of muscles that occur in the lower legs. These movements do not keep you from falling asleep but can disrupt your sleep during the night, which causes fatigue, short attention span, and impaired memory. Episodes normally last for a few minutes to an hour, with movements that occur every 20 to 40 seconds. For most people, movements do not disturb their sleep in a severe way but can disturb their bed partner.
