Wheeler Clinic to Provide Services at ProHealth Physicians’ Center for ADHD and Attention Disorders
November 3, 2015
Wheeler has entered into an agreement to provide behavioral health services for children and adolescents at the ProHealth ADHD Center, specializing in ADHD and Attention Disorders, located at 400 Saybrook Road, Middletown.
At the center, Wheeler will provide on-site diagnosis, rapid assessment, brief treatment intervention and referral, and recommendations for ongoing individual and family therapy and behavioral health services.
“Wheeler has extensive experience serving youth and adolescents with complex behavioral social, emotional, learning, and behavioral challenges,” said Susan Walkama, LCSW, President and Chief Executive Officer, Wheeler Clinic. “Our agreement with ProHealth brings that experience into a setting where families are seeking options for care that complement and support the ADHD and Attention Disorder treatment they are receiving.”
Dr. Marybeth Ellison, Medical Director of the ProHealth ADHD Center, says: “We believe in a comprehensive management model for Attention and Developmental Disorders, since integrated treatment plans have been documented as the most successful approach. Treatment that includes psychotherapy, behavior modification, and parent training has been shown to be instrumental in improving outcomes for these patients and their families. We are committed to helping our patients cope with their diagnosis; having these services integrated into our office will improve the delivery of care and, ultimately, their lives.”
The ProHealth ADHD Center provides comprehensive, multi-dimensional care, so as to capture the impact of Attention Disorders on home, school, and social functioning. The center participates with most insurance plans and cares for children ages 3 to college-age.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the most commonly diagnosed neurodevelopmental condition in children today. ADHD is a real and treatable biological condition that affects almost 9% of children in the United States. All children will have behavioral problems once in a while, but for children with ADHD and their families, the challenges are much more daunting and persistent, which make it difficult to succeed in their daily lives. Adults can struggle with ADHD, with about 4% of the population having this diagnosis.
As part of ProHealth Physicians, the ProHealth ADHD Center brings together a talented, multidisciplinary team of experts designed to combine their varied clinical perspectives in order to address every aspect of the disorder. Based in Farmington, CT, ProHealth Physicians is Connecticut’s largest physician-owned healthcare delivery system, operating 95 practices, serving over 380,000 active patients, and completing over 850,000 patient encounters per year. Formed in 1997, ProHealth has grown to include more than 350 primary care and specialty providers and offers select specialty and diagnostic/therapeutic services such as ENT, pediatric and adult gastroenterology, plastic surgery, imaging, physical therapy, sleep medicine services, ADHD diagnosis and treatment, audiology, neurology, and regional Express Care walk-in centers to meet patients’ needs for access and convenience. For the past 15 years, ProHealth’s clinical performance program has enabled its providers to identify patients who are due for specific healthcare screenings and tests based on the clinical guidelines relevant to the individual patient’s condition. ProHealth has participated in the Medicare Shared Savings Program since 2013 and is contracted to care for more than 100,000 patients through commercial shared savings agreements. ProHealth cares for over 10% of Connecticut’s population and continues to expand throughout the state.
