Go screen free
April 22, 2019
Did you know that the first full week of May is international Screen-Free Week? It’s a great time to turn off phones, games, TVs and computers and “turn on” life.
Here are a few ways to reduce your screen time:
- Turn off all electronics an hour before bed. They give off a blue light that can affect your ability to sleep. Instead, read a paper book or magazine, take a bath, meditate, or work on a puzzle or craft.
- Get moving. Sitting in front of a screen can sap energy and keep you on the couch all night. So after dinner, say no to Netflix. Go for a walk, ride a bike, swim or garden instead. Also, keep screens off during meals and enjoy your food, family and friends.
- Use an app. This might seem counterintuitive, but knowing how often you use your phone can help you use it less. Most smartphones have apps that track your use and report how you’re doing compared to last week. Be aware and try to beat each week.
